The floating anchor is a necessary part of the safety equipment of a boat. It is used to limit the leeway of your boat or liferaft, when you find yourself in rough sea conditions and strong winds. It also holds your boat still and turns it so that it is positioned with the bow or stern towards the wave. As well as for safety reasons, the sea anchor is useful for keeping the boat as still as possible and not letting it drift from the wind, this is very useful if you are fishing or swimming or if you are in water too deep to drop anchor .
Instructions for Use
Made of sturdy PVC, the anchor is open on both sides and is provided with webbing that forms two loops on the front and one on the rear opening. The sea anchor is attached to the bow of the boat (B) using
a rope, which must be at least five (5) times the length of the boat (A).
The line fixed to the bow of the boat is tied to the two front straps of the anchor by making a firm knot (C). The greater the size of the anchor (aperture width), the higher its effectiveness.
To recover the sea anchor, you will need to tie a second line to the rear opening of the anchor (D) and haul it on board when it is no longer needed.
To prevent other boats from passing over the line of your sea anchor, you can use a buoy (E) tied to the anchor haul line. Floating anchors are not to be used for permanent anchorages.
